MLB Heavyweight Champion

If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.

The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion.

The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.

I am the Tooth Fairy, and I Know What's Happening
2005-01-10 12:52
by Ken Arneson

More fun with rumors:

Jayson Stark of ESPN reports that the A's could be interested in signing Carlos Delgado, if they could clear some salary and/or roster space.

Yeah, right. And I'm the tooth fairy.

(Actually, I am the tooth fairy, come to think of it. But don't tell my daughters.)

A slightly more realistic rumor is that the A's might be interested in acquiring Mike Cameron, who became expendable after the Mets signed Carlos Beltran to play CF.

There's one thing about Billy Beane: once he decides he likes a guy, he never seems to give up trying to get him. (See: Erubiel Durazo, Kirk Saarloos, Jack Cust.) The A's tried very hard to sign Cameron as a free agent last year, so we know Cameron has the official Billy Beane Stamp Of Approval®.

But I don't see it happening. The budget is tight, Cameron makes $7M, and he'll be injured to start the season. Plus, Mark Kotsay is good enough, isn't he?
