Athletics-Tigers, ALCS Game 2 Chat
2006-10-11 13:30
I was just about to head out to the Coliseum for tonight's game, when I heard the horrible news about the Cory Lidle plane crash. This is terribly, terribly sad news. The game doesn't seem to matter much right now, does it? Phil, here... subbing in for Ken, who's at the park. Here are the starting lineups for tonight's game. Condolences to the Lidle family. Detroit Tigers Curtis Granderson -- CF Oakland Athletics Jason Kendall -- C And your pitching match-up: Justin Verlander versus Esteban Loaiza -- a replay of a game I attended back in April. It was the best of Loaiza's pre-DL starts, though he didn't factor into the decision. Nick Swisher won the game with two home runs, both hit off of Verlander. I would tell you that I anticipated that game would be a dry-run for Game 2 of the ALCS, but my mother raised me not to lie.

MLB Heavyweight Champion
If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.
The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion. The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.

Also, after the terrible news from NY today, I really need baseball to provide some free therapy. Pitching duel, please!

But I do think they can take Rogers and Robertson. Unfortunately we'll only see them once more (each), assuming Bonderman is as unhittable as Verlander.
I'd love for Oakland to make me look silly.
Kotsay looks locked in tonight. Maybe those two DPs he hit into yesterday embarassed him.
By the way, on a happy note, Ken's car was found in Oakland, and towed directly to the Coliseum, so that he would have a ride home.
Great news about the car.
Wow, the car was in one piece?
Now's time for the typical A's escape from a jam DP...wish they'd gone after Pudge with that intent instead of waiting for Monroe.
Oakland just made you look silly, my man.
Yeah, I'd gotten so used to our previously air-tight infield turning that kind of ball into a DP. Not any more I guess, two borderline plays flubbed by Chavvy.
Of course, he would be 114 years old, which should affect his velocity somewhat.
Besides, if Scutaro's approach at the plate in that last bat is any indication, I think maybe I could retire an Athletic or two tonight.
Ugh.
Yes, we've entered the Negative Nelly portion of tonight's broadcast.
So I won the World Series ticket lottery and they go on sale tomorrow morning. Should I bother?
... I do not favor our position.
