Game Time Change for ALCS Game 3
2006-10-12 13:15
by Ken Arneson

Game Three will now start at 1PM Pacific, 4PM Eastern, on Friday. This is partly to accomodate the NLCS rainout last night, and partly because the weather is supposed to be quite cold in Detroit.

One good thing for the A's: if you're going to play a game where there's a chance of snow, having a Canadian start the game for you is an advantage. Rich Harden loves to pitch in cold, damp weather. Back in April, he said this about pitching on a cold, wet day:

"Basically, this is identical to the weather up there in Victoria (British Columbia, where Harden grew up). It's always wet, like my home," he said. "Light rain, cold, that stuff. I'm comfortable. It doesn't bother me at all."

Hooray for optimism!

This is stupid from an NL perspective, since the Mets and Cards then have to fly a red-eye to St. Loo for game 3 on Saturday.

But its all about the Benjamins ...

But the players aren't far from the airport. They just get on the plane in uniform in LaGuardia and they're off.

My Michigander brother says that snow this early in that neck of the woods is very rare.

MLB Heavyweight Champion

If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.

The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion.

The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.
