MLB Heavyweight Champion

If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.

The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion.

The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.

Hooray For Not Being Stupid!

I think these A's fans are cheering because their division rivals keep doing stupid things.

So, someone realized that they would be sitting in the front row of a deck at the Colliseum. And they decided to bring a banner to that game. And they went and bought a bedsheet and yellow paint, and spent probably two or three hours meticulously painting this bedsheet. What phrase could possibly be worthy of such meticulous planning and valiant effort?

"Toledo!"

This is right up there with the most hilariously dumb sign I've ever seen anyone bring to a baseball game. Opening day 2006, Yankees at A's... ESPN pans the crowd and finds a guy with a bright yellow sign that reads in bold black letters: Let's Do This! I can only imagine what else bounces around in that guy's head.

1 And yes, I realize the whole Bill King connection... but it's stil only half the phrase. I mean, are those fans suggesting that the 2006 Athletics are only capable of secular acts of Toledo, and not holy ones?

1 You misunderstand. The sign is a counterargument to the sign next to it on the left. What's not visible is Lew Wolff's sign that says "Fremont!"

Chapter the Thriteenth: In which the Athletics move briefly to Ohio, only to return to Northern California ashamed and slightly disoriented, thereby arriving in Fremont rather than Oakland.

Given that the Mudhens have just won back to back Govenor's Cups for the IL championship, I'll say no thanks to the A's
($8 tickets - for every seat and $6 32 oz. beers, something you don't see with ML teams.)

Ken, what game was this taken at?

Because I think I'm in the shot.

Ah -- I wasn't at that game. It must be some other staggeringly handsome fellow in Section 147.

I will presume that the fans are cheering Eric Chavez's 16th homer of the year.

Which staggeringly handsome guy are you referring to? The shirtless guy staring dazedly into the distance? The guy to his right, seated, legs spread wide open, chowing down on ice cream? The fellow of the rather large carriage applauding?
