Halloween Greetings from Catfish Stew
2007-10-31 15:31
With the Red Sox completing their sweep of the Rockies in remorseless fashion, we are left bereft of baseball far sooner than any of us outside the greater New England area might have hoped for. So, to pass the time until the beginning of the Hot Stove League -- or as we A's fans call it, Get a Load of Our Rule V Draft Selections and Non-Tendered Signees! -- I thought I'd share my Halloween costume with y'all. Detroit Tigers hat... mustache... Hawaiian shirt... beloved '80s icon... Are you getting it? That's right -- I'm going as former Tigers Pitcher Dan Petry on vacation in Oahu. Ooooooh... I went 18-8 in 1984! Scary stuff! My wife is dressing up as teammate Milt Wilcox, by the way. All of you people who guessed Magnum P.I. should be ashamed of yourselves.

MLB Heavyweight Champion
If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.
The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion. The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.

He's history's greatest monster!
My three kids (youngest to oldest) are going as a pumpkin, a clown, and a surprise math quiz.
Did I say I went 18-8? I meant 8-18. Also, we lost to the Padres in five games. Bwah hah ha ha ha ha!
