MLB Heavyweight Champion

If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.

The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion.

The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.

Current Champion (as of 5/17):

Haren Fasting
2006-09-08 18:24
by Ken Arneson

OK, I resisted fasting Dan Haren before, but I gotta do it now. He was terrible today against the Devil Rays. He just keeps leaving pitches out over the fat part of the plate.

I'm not watching/listening to Dan Haren pitch until he throws five consecutive scoreless innings.

At least Haren -- and this is small consolation -- isn't walking a lot of guys. So that when he serves up those big fat meatballs to the likes of Jorge Cantu, the damage is kept to a minimum.

2 True. I have the feeling that Haren is erring a little bit too much on the side of throwing strikes. He might be better served to aim a little bit more towards the corners, and maybe walk an extra guy here or there, to avoid throwing so many meatballs.

But then again, I doubt he's trying to throw the ball down the middle of the plate, it's just happening. It's probably just a minor mechanical thing, and he'll get over it. I hope.
