Supervolcano!!!
2006-09-26 21:54
by Ken Arneson

Tonight, after resolving not to watch the A's, I ended up watching a Nova documentary on supervolcanos instead.

And so it was...the Angels lost to Texas, and the A's beat the Seattle Mariners, and clinched the AL West, avoiding the massive choke I feared.

Yippee!

The last time the A's beat their jinxes and won the World Series, there was a massive earthquake in the Bay Area.

Obviously, then, there is a connection between natural disasters and jinxbusting.

So I guess I'll need to make a list like this one of shows to watch during the playoffs.

"May the enchantment dissolve and pass harmlessly away." Thankfully the A's rebounded powerfully to clinch not a day too soon, driving away the dread spectre of '64 - and the requisite postmortems. I can breath easily again.

Honestly, Ken, the ways these fasts of yours have worked out this year, the A's oughta vote you a playoff share.

Never happier to be so wrong!

Go A's!

Anyone think Harden should pitch game one? I guess I should say anyone besides me.

6 Yes, I'd love to see Harden go games 1 and 5. But that's not the way the rotation is falling, and I wouldn't want to mess Harden up by screwing with his rehab schedule, so I guess we'll just have to live with two doses of Zito.

sigh. of. relief. i was starting to feel the choke coming on too.

so, for at least a couple more days, my dream of an A's-dodgers world series is still alive!

though, even if it were to happen, i would be unable to fulfill my promise to myself and attend one of the games in person. but i can live with that, i suppose.

anyway, i can't wait for the playoffs now. i wish they were today. i'm actually feeling kind of giddy.

MLB Heavyweight Champion

If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.

The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion.

The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.
