Bonds

I left Saturday's Fan Fest early, so I missed the part where Milton Bradley charmed everyone's socks off. Seeing that Barry Bonds finally signed with the Giants again makes me wonder if Milton Bradley might get a similar treatment from the free agent market next year: only one team knows how to handle you--you better stay there.

That's assuming that Bradley doesn't blow up in Oakland this year. And that he stays healthy. And that he doesn't get blamed for accidentally spilling too many coffee cups on teammates.

I am still busy holding Bobby Kielty Prisoner, so I haven't had time to comment further on Fan Fest, or on Justin Duchscherer, or the latest on Kirk Saarloos (again). I hope that this, too, shall pass, so these words that build up like magma under my dome may one day be released, without too much violence.

That picture begs a quote of Barry's thoughts
"Major League Baseball, uh? Rigghhhht."

Anyone who speaks the name Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds in the same sentence should be taking their last breath. Mr. Aaron deserves a shrine as lofty as the one where "42" resides. Assuming Bonds breaks the career homerun record, it should be carried in the books next to a hypo with a bent spike.

As for a Far Side type caption: Guess which one is juiced?

Barry looks a little lonely out there on the carpet of rich green grass, doesn't he?

Well, that's what I imagine about an outfielder such as he, anyways. Out in left field, alone, with thousands upon thousands just far enough away (and yet too close, too).

The outfield is his liability and his haven, as he doesn't have to dodge reporters there, be surly to anyone, or have to answer to anyone. Yet, he can't really do much good out there, either: just hope it isn't hit in the gap where he might look foolish in his inability to get there (or still look foolish in actually getting there).

Ah, but for spring and the time to be out alone in left field...
