MLB Heavyweight Champion

If MLB champs were decided like boxing: beat the champ, and you're the champ.

The 2008 season started with the Red Sox as champs. They were beaten by the A's, who were beaten back by Boston, who were then swept by Toronto, who lost to Oakland, who lost to Cleveland, and so on, until we reached our current champion.

The Heavyweight of the Year is the team that wins the most title bouts at the end of the season.

Bright Blessed Days
2007-07-08 23:01
by Ken Arneson

My youngest daughter, eleven days old, attended the first ballgame of her life this afternoon. The Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics demonstrated to her, in many ways, what an amazing world she was born into. As a token of my appreciation, I would to sing them a song, and it goes a little something like this:

The colors of a rainbow
So pretty in the sky

Are also on the faces
of people going by

I see friends shaking hands,
Saying "How do you do?"

They're really saying,
"I love you".

I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow...

They'll learn much more
Than I'll ever know

And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Perhaps the best thing in this photo essay -- besides the shot of your daughter, of course -- is in Photo No. 3 in which the bat boy walks away, unperturbed by the silliness going on behind him. Brawls will come, and brawls will go, but there will always be bats to pick up.

Congrats Ken! As the proud dad of a now-21-day-old baby boy (our second child), I hope you're getting more sleep than I am.
